Reliable stimulation of pre-perforated completions with AccuStim®

AccuStim Coiled Tubing Straddle Packer

Background

Pre-perforated completions are employed in numerous formations in Saskatchewan and Alberta where they provide advantages over conventional plug-and-perf stimulation. Instead of multiple trips in and out of the wellbore to set plugs for stage-to-stage isolation, pre-perforated wells are stimulated using coiled tubing straddle tools, which can treat the entire wellbore in one trip. Interra’s proprietary AccuStim coiled tubing straddle packer has been engineered with efficiency and repeatability in mind while working closely with operators on development. Featuring a fully enclosed system, the straddle packer design minimizes the risk of proppant and wellbore debris affecting the mechanical operation of the tool. Additionally, the bypass system decreases the time between stages resulting in maximum efficiency during stimulation.

Results

Figure 1 shows a typical horizontal AccuStim straddle packer stimulation treatment chart for a 26-stage pre-perforated job in the Viking. All proppant was placed in just under 9 hours with no job issues or trips out of hole for tool repair.

Another option for improving the efficiency and reliability of cemented coiled tubing stimulations is to run coiled tubing activated sleeve systems, such as Interra’s proven StrataJet® Multistage Coil Frac Sleeve.
